Knowing which countries to submit clinical trial results summaries to is the easy part. What becomes difficult is learning the intricacies and transparency requirements of every clinical trial registry globally, including the Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR). Here is an overview of this registry:

Registry name: Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR)

Country: Thailand

Year established: 2009

Points of interest:

  • The registry was created in 2009 by a group of academics, and in 2013, it became a primary registry in the WHO Registry Network.
  • The Ministry of Public Health of Thailand endorsed the registry in 2010.
  • The TCTR is operated by the Clinical Research Collaboration Network (CRCN), and organization under the Medical Research Foundation.
  • The TCTR is financially supported the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS).
  • The TCTR’s mission is to encourage registration of all clinical trials conducted in Thailand before subject recruitment. This is to increase transparency and to reduce bias.
  • Both clinical trials and observational studies are welcome to register on the TCTR.
  • The registry states that “you are required to update your trial information every 6 months or when it has been modified or its status has been changed.”
  • Additionally, TCTR states that “Registrants who wish to register clinical trials in TCTR are obliged to disclose details of the 20 mandatory items of the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (WHO-ICTRP) dataset.”
  • As of September 2019, there are 3,235 studies listed on the registry.
