Sunshine payment reporting rules expanded – Policy & Medicine
The U.S. Senate had voted in favor of an opioid bill that expands Open Payments to include payments made to Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurse Midwifes, Nurse Anesthetists, and Clinical Nurse Specialists, in addition to current physician reporting requirements. This will go into effect beginning January 1, 2022.

EudraCT public web report release for September 2018 – EMA
The EMA released its public web report all statistics from the EudraCT Database this month. It was disclosed that 55,061 clinical trials have been recorded in the database, with a total of 3,668 EudraCT numbers issued in 2018 to date.

Getting better results on ClinicalTrials.gov – Clinical Leader
A guest column by Lael Stone, M.D., a neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic, and Janice T. Radak, former editor in chief of the journal Geriatrics and current editor of Lower Extremity Review, discusses the original intent behind ClinicalTrials.gov and its target audience: patients. The article asks readers to imagine ClinicalTrials.gov as a patient education and recruiting tool, and introduces ways to make the registry more patient-friendly.
